Samsung Asset Management to Introduce Blockchain ETF In Hong Kong

Hong Kong-based Samsung Asset Management (SAMHK), a division of Samsung’s investment department locally, is reportedly going forth with its plan for a blockchain-themed exchange-traded fund (ETF).

Specifically, The firm reportedly has expectations to introduce its Samsung Blockchain Technologies ETF across the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on June 23, per SAMHK. 

The ETF has plans down its pipeline to achieve long-term capital increase, via making investments in stocks of firms with active involvement in the design and adoption of blockchain technologies, the fund prospectus reads. 

The fund is reportedly going to make investments in blockchain-associated study and development entities, data providers, industry investment firms, and others.

SAMHK’s portfolio management team – the division taking care of the filtering of companies having “small market capitalization or low trading volume” – will reportedly be in charge of the management work for the ETF’s composition. 

The Samsung Blockchain Technologies ETF reportedly operates as a sub-fund of Samsung ETFs Trust, an umbrella unit trust established under Hong Kong regulation, per the firm. 

Per the announcement, SAMHK reportedly views the new investment solution as the “first-ever global blockchain-related ETF in Hong Kong” together with Asia.

“The demand for data processing and storage will expedite with the evolution of our digital world. Blockchain technologies will further be widely used by different businesses to improve data efficiency, and security and shorten the accessibility time. We see this as one of the future trends on digital transformation.” Carmen Cheung, head of ETF and passive investment at SAMHK, highlighted the rising demand for blockchain-powered applications.
