NEM Foundation in Argentina has signed a memorandum of understanding with CISPREN – a local trade union of journalists with a view towards developing a blockchain-powered solution to copyright protection.

According to CISPREN’s press secretary, German Guismondi, the memorandum is signed in hopes that a blockchain-based solution can be an effective means of copyright protection by resolving issues such as the theft of content, and failure to pay royalties.

On the same note, he also specified that authors will be able to upload content to the blockchain, which creates a timestamp as proof of authenticity, and increases traceability. In addition, each article will bear a unique QR code and a digital signature which will serve as additional proofs of ownership in the event of any dispute arising.

This is not the first occasion in which blockchain has been used in arriving at solutions within the industry. Last year, the blockchain-based platform Civil partnered Forbes with a view towards publishing content on a decentralized network – facilitating writers, journalists, and content producers to publish directly without the need for an intermediary.
