France Government Open For Crypto Donations to Rebuild Notre Dame

Cédric O, France’s Minister of State for the Digital Sector, stated that cryptocurrency platforms are welcome to cooperate with the government to enable crypto donations for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame cathedral.

Earlier this week, the historic building of Paris caught fire and was nearly destroyed. Over the course of two days, more than 900 million euros (over $1 billion) has been raised for the reconstruction of the cathedral.

Currently, the official website for donating hasn’t supported cryptocurrency yet since it was built in just under a day. But he also stated that the government is “open to discussing with others.”

The same rules apply for both donations made in fiat and cryptocurrency, no commission is charged, data will be collected for tax reductions and must eventually come back to one of the four approved organizations.

Crypto giant Binance also stepped in to help with its own crypto donation program to support the reconstruction of the cathedral this week. The donation channel nests on Binance’s charity platform, which was introduced as an initiative of The Blockchain Charity Foundation (BCF).

Earlier this week, France Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire confirmed that his country considers blockchain technology as a priority.
