Buterin Proposed Alternative Solution For Early Transition to Ethereum 2.0

By Natalie Wu | December 27, 2019

Vitalik Buterin – creator of Ethereum (ETH) – has reportedly proposed a different solution to speed up the Ethereum 2.0 transition.

Revealed via a post on the ETH Research forum on December 23, Buterin has come up with an “accelerated schedule”, devoted to improve the speed of the transition process, from Ethereum 1.0 to Ethereum 2.0, via employing a new kind of ETH validator – commonly known with the name “eth1-friendly validators.”

Per Buterin, the utilization of this new type of ETH validator would not need as much “re-architecting” in the network, as compared to another alternative measure.

“Specifically, it requires stateless clients, but NOT stateless miners and NOT webassembly, and so requires much less re-architecting to accomplish.” Buterin claimed.

Buterin further clarified that the proposed alternative transition would still be carried out, via employing a procedure with similarities to the formerly described transition to Ethereum 2.0.

Ethereum 2.0 is a big update of the network on the Ethereum blockchain, particularly created to change from the existing Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm to Proof-of-Stake. When the transition is finalized, the block validation feature is transferred to from miners to special network validators.

Eth1-friendly validators are hoped to be able to support both the old Ethereum 1.0 node and the Ethereum 2.0 Beacon Chain.
