Fudan University, the major university located in Shanghai, has announced the opening of a new blockchain research center on February 15.

According to the news release on the Fudan University’s website,  the school has partnered with Zhongan Online Property Insurance Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Zhongren Information Technology Co., Ltd. to established the Shanghai Blockchain Engineering Technology Research Center.

The opening of the center is expected to support the development of blockchain technology in Shanghai and therefore boost the city’s economy growth. New-established blockchain center will carry out more academic researches, talent training programs and demonstrate associated applications.

This is not the first time blockchain technology made it into academic environment in the world’s most populated nation. Last month, Ripple has entered into a partnership with the Institute for Fintech Research, Tsinghua University to offer graduate students in China the Blockchain Technology Research Scholarship, reported by The Crypto Sight on Jan 20.
