US Hockey Team to Build Blockchain-based Authentication Tool

The Los Angeles-based professional ice hockey team will be utilizing blockchain technologies in building a new supervising system for merchandise authentication, announced in a press release on February 20.

According to an executive of the sports team, LA Kings will be collaborating with the Augmented Reality company Pro Exp Media to design an AR Authentication App that when put into use can help confirm the legitimate value of the products the LA Kings supporter buy. Though no further technical details of the app have been revealed, the new AR app would be able to turn down any goods that do not match the required standards.

The announcement of the new AR App design will mark the first time blockchain technologies and platforms make their presence in one of the U.S professional sports league industry. Previous attempts have been made prior to the one above, but none has managed to create such blockchain-based tool for merchandise controlling.

“The LA Kings pride ourselves on innovation and a drive to be first-in-market as it relates to our digital strategy. This utilization of AR and Blockchain in the sports memorabilia realm is truly a first of its kind but — more importantly — also adds extra layers of authentication and security to the many fans who have become customers of our Game-Used product.” Jonathan Lowe – the senior VP of business development and strategy for the LA Kings added regarding the partnership between the two companies.
