The national postal service of Switzerland is reportedly investing efforts in connecting physical stamps and the digital crypto sphere, via rolling out tradable digital stamps.

Specifically, On Sept. 20, the Swiss Post reportedly disclosed official details regarding the release of the “Swiss crypto stamp” – a digital collectible connected to a physical stamp, produced by the postal service, with a value of 8.9 Swiss francs.

The Swiss crypto stamp will reportedly offer a digital representation for a physical stamp, which will be safely kept on the blockchain.

“Each design forms a nonfungible token and is stored in the Polygon Blockchain” A Swiss Post representative reportedly remarked.

Buyers will reportedly have the freedom to find out a digital twin of their physical stamp online, via a QR code printed next to the physical stamp. A total of 13 different designs will be displayed by the crypto stamp’s image, which is collectible, exchangeable, and tradable online.

As revealed by the Swiss Post spokesperson, exchange or selling activities across platforms, nominally high-profile non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea, by the customers, will be facilitated.

“Swiss Post only sells the Swiss crypto stamp, trading with it takes place separately from Swiss Post”.

The upcoming Swiss crypto stamp reportedly bears some resemblances to NFTs, with a few of the stamps coming with rare designs.

“Some are more common, while others are much rarer and more coveted. There are 65,000 copies of the most common digital design, but just 50 of the rarest. One thing is clear: the Swiss crypto stamp means collecting, exchanging, and trading stamps has gone digital, too,” the Swiss Post wrote.
