Spanish Telecom Firm to Test New Blockchain Platform for Selling Personal Data

By Natalie Wu | February 24, 2019

Spanish multinational communications group Telefónica has initiated the trial of a new blockchain platform for its innovation arm Movistar, according to a press release last Thursday.

The platform is to act as a notary and reportedly focus on data authenticity verification for customers selling their personal information on the firm’s branch Movistar in Uruguay, adding “a trust layer to operations and design new disruptive services,” said Telefónica’s Chief Innovation Officer Gonzalo Martin-Villa.

Mat Traviano, Wibson’s co-founder and CEO, ensured at the time that Wibson’s decentralized data marketplace is “always authentic, recent, and high quality.”

Wibson introduced its data exposition last October in Argentina, Spain and the U.K., where users can make a profit by selling their private data for its custom tokens (WIB) on the comfort of their mobile devices with full customer’s proprietary rights.
