Meta Completes Instagram NFT Integration Throughout More Than 100 Nations

By Natalie Wu | August 14, 2022

Social media giant Meta has reportedly initiated its nonfungible token (NFT) expansion throughout 100 nations in Africa, the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas.

Specifically, the scope of the expansion will reportedly include offering assistance for wallet connections with Coinbase Wallet and Dapper, together with the feature to post digital collectibles minted on the Flow blockchain

The initial introduction reportedly aims to cater primarily to the popular social media app Instagram.

The update will reportedly allow for the simplified connection from users’ digital wallet to Instagram to post an NFT, as revealed by the firm in its updated post. Third-party wallet integrations with Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet are either complete or are coming soon.

The blockchain networks currently receiving facilitation reportedly include Ethereum, Polygon and Flow. No costs will come with posting or sharing a digital collectible on Instagram.

Flow reportedly functions as a layer-1 blockchain with its namesake FLOW token acting as tender for network participation, transactions and governance. Notable ecosystem partners include Warner Music, Ubisoft, National Basketball Association, Ultimate Fighting Championship, Animoca Brands, Circle, Binance, OpenSea, with Meta now joining the mix.

Together with the metaverse, crypto assets seem to have turned into one of Meta’s core components for expansion. During Q2 this year, the firm’s revenue witnessed a 1% annual decline to $28.8 billion while its operating income dropped by 32% to $8.36 billion in the same period.

Meta’s Head – Mark Zuckerberg – reportedly shared his unfazed attitude towards the significant $2.8 billion loss in the company’s Metaverse division, and that rather there was a chance to make “hundreds of billions,” or even “trillions,” of dollars as the sector matures.
