Grammy-winning singer Mariah Carey is reportedly the most recent high-profile figure in the music industry to hop on the Bitcoin (BTC) bandwagon, following a Bitcoin purchase via Gemini.

Specifically, via an Instagram video message to her fandom of 10.2 million followers, Carey reportedly revealed her freshly formed alliance with high-profile crypto exchange of the Winklevoss brothers, in an attempt to enhance Bitcoin adoption and support girls of color in their pursuit of STEM degrees.

In the video, Carey reportedly shared the confirmation of her Bitcoin acquisition facilitated by Gemini. She further offered her supporters a referral code to redeem $20 in free BTC.

“Did you know you don’t need to buy a whole Bitcoin to invest? In fact, you can buy as little as $5”.

Carey reportedly shared the credit to Cryptopedia – the free education platform developed by Gemini – for equipping her with sufficient knowledge regarding crypto investing.

Users who reportedly complete the registration process via the referral link and start trading on Gemini will be making direct contributions to Black Girls Code, a non-profit organization that provides technology education for African-American girls.

While early crypto investors were reportedly viewed as pioneers compared to others when making investments in Bitcoin prior to the mainstream recognizing it, a major part of the market is under heavy impact from celebrity endorsements.

In September, a Morning Consult survey of 2,200 citizens living in America reportedly discovered that  45% of crypto holders would gain exposure to a cryptocurrency if it received endorsement from a famous individual.
