Former French Central Bank Governor Joins British Blockchain Firm SETL

British blockchain firm for the finance industry SETL has announced the appointment of a new board member – former governor of France’s central bank Christian Noyer.

Noyer was Governor of Banque de France from November 2003 to October 2015. He has also held other positions prior such as Vice President of the European Central Bank, and served in the Treasury of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance.

In a company blog post (Jan 17), SETL CEO Philippe Morel said Noyer’s appointment “will assist SETL in many ways. We believe we have a technological lead in the blockchain for financial markets arena having demonstrated the ability to process billions of transactions a day, and to be able to service over 100 million addresses concurrently. We are unique in having both a financial grade product and a proven deployment route”.

Launched in 2015, SETL has been working on blockchain-based institutional payments and settlements infrastructure.

Its board of directors features finance and governmental heavyweights such as Chairman Sir David Walker, a former non-executive member of the Court of the Bank of England who also served in Her Majesty’s Treasury. Others like Martin Clements spent 30 years with the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, while Rachel Lomax was a former Bank of England Deputy Governor.
