Final Public Testnet for ETH 2.0 Scheduled to be Released On August 4th

A release date has reportedly been set for the Ethereum 2.0 network upgrade to have its public testnet rolled out, in two more weeks, after a long development process.

Specifically, the platform’s launch coordinator, Danny Ryan (@djrtwo) reportedly revealed the development on the testnet’s discussion board on Discord.

“After discussions with client teams, the next multi-client testnet (mainnet config including min validator numbers) will have a min genesis time of August 4th,”

Phase 0 of ETH 2.0 has reportedly been operating across different testnets since the genesis block was designed for Beacon Chain in April. Phase 0 is reportedly the initial step of the long awaited upgrade to Proof-of-Stake and will reportedly offer an enhanced level of transaction speeds.

The security protocol for ETH 2.0 will reportedly be via users placing a lowest amount of 32 ETH stake for operating a validating node.

Beacon Chain has reportedly gone live on the initial testnet dubbed Sapphire, this April, using smaller 3.2 ETH deposits. After the process has been proven successful, all 32 ETH nodes went live the following month the Topaz testnet and the issuance process of staking rewards was initiated.

The Onyx testnet began in June this year, and was operating at a steady pace with approximately 20,000 validators by the end of the month. Finally, Altona reportedly ran coordination for a multi-client testnet for Phase 0, available at the start of July.
