The Rand Corporation – the US-based nonprofit global policy think tank – has reportedly conducted a thorough analysis of the dark web, a place utilized by criminals to prevent investigation and supervision from the authorities.

Specifically, on November 20, The Rand Corporation, in collaboration with the Police Executive Research Forum, and the University of Denver on behalf of the National Institute of Justice, published a report that provides understanding for numerous features beneficial to criminal that the dark web can have.

Crypto coins-wise, the report revealed that the anonymous nature of the dark web could raise several serious matters, causing troubles to the authorities’ work, since individuals with criminal intents can become anonymous freely, via utilizing some major digital coins, as outlined in the report, including Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), or Monero (XMR).

Moreover, the report notified that because the number of digital coins users that abide by the laws is also high, it is a significant obstacle for the police to conduct proper identification and put an end to illicit goods and services tradings.

Furthermore, the existing identification measures for criminals on the dark webs are almost all based on traditional approach, which the law enforcement has been able to familiarise themselves with.

To conclude, the report shared some main points: more funds should be invested in training, and in ramping up the cross-agencies data sharing network, both US-based and foreign.
