TRON has hired David Labhart, a former Supervisory Attorney at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as its inaugural head of compliance, the company announced on January 9.

TRON’s press statement says the company is “committed to working with regulatory agencies” to develop technologies “in a responsible way”.

Labhart will serve as TRON’s co-general counsel and comes with almost 15 years of legal and regulatory expertise in the securities industry.

In 9 years spent at SEC, Labhart was for a time a Supervisory Attorney in its Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. Apart from focusing on broker-dealers, investment advisors, and self-regulatory organizations, he became adept in emerging risks and technology such as in cryptocurrency, blockchain, and high frequency trading.

He was most recently with S&P Global Ratings before joining TRON, where he advised on regulatory areas that included blockchain, artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
