By Natalie Wu | December 15, 2019

The central bank of Sweden is reportedly rumoured to be investing resources in designing a pilot platform to facilitate the e-krona cryptocurrency

Reported by Reuters on December 13, Sweden is looking into the possible positive impacts the e-krona can bring to the nation.

Per the report, Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, shared its plan to forge a collaboration with professional services firm from Ireland, Accenture, to design a pilot platform facilitating the crypto coin e-krona.

The project is an attempt from the bank to gain extensive knowledge of the coin’s potential, as cash has been gradually replaced as a preferred payments option in Sweden the past years.

“The primary objective of the e-krona pilot project is to broaden the bank’s understanding of the technological possibilities for the e-krona.”

Apart from the above-mentioned initiative, the Riksbank has been keeping a close eyes on the matters that can be brought upon by crypto coins. In October this year, Sweden’s Riksbank chief, Stefan Ingves, has deemed Facebook’s upcoming Libra project an “incredibly important catalytic event”. he further believed that Libra could be the primary reason making central banks across the globe to equip themselves with necessary knowledge stepping into digital transformation.
