Regulators in Russia are reportedly putting a partial reversal on the table for debate, revolving around the nation’s prohibition on cryptocurrency payments.

Specifically, Pavel Krasheninnikov, chairman of the Russian Duma’s Committee on State Building and Legislation, reportedly disclosed that the authority is contemplating the adjustment of civil law, to enable crypto payments as a “contractual medium.”

Particularly, Krasheninnikov reportedly highlighted that digital coins like Bitcoin (BTC) are not representatives of a legal payment measure in Russia at the moment, which means it is not mandatory for merchants to accept it.

The planned changes would reportedly make crypto payment lawfully viable in the nation, under contractual law – meaning that such payments would be officially facilitated when all involved sides have granted their consents.

“We believe that it is necessary to make amendments to the Civil Code, the initiative is currently undergoing a necessary approval procedure. Currently, there is an understanding that digital currency is not legal as payment but this payment method, quite possibly, can be contractual.”

Previously, Russia reportedly put its crypto payment prohibition in effect beginning January, officially making it legal unacceptable for residents to carry out and receive crypto-enabled payments locally.
