ProtonMail Showed Strong Faith In Bitcoin Regardless Of Market Crash And Carbon Drama

By Warren Hayes | May 24, 2021

Top-tier privacy-focused email service ProtonMail is reportedly still having major faith in Bitcoin (BTC), regardless of the concerning volatility which resulted in a $30,000 drop in price value recently.

Particularly, ProtonMail reportedly took it to Twitter to disclose its initiative to continue to keep a significant sum of Bitcoin in its possession, with the primary goal to assist the company in maintaining its independent position.

“Responsible financial diversification requires holding some assets outside of the traditional government controlled banking system. That’s why Proton will continue to #HODL a significant proportion of our reserves in #Bitcoin to safeguard our independence.”

With the initiative publicly revealed, ProtonMail has reportedly joined the footsteps of numerous other firms, nominally MicroStrategy, where its Head, Michael Saylor, claimed that entities within his possession finalized the acquisition of approximately 111,000 Bitcoin – equivalent to $4.5 billion at the time of writing.

“[Those entities] have not sold a single satoshi, BTC forever” Saylor remarked.

ProtonMail reportedly rolled out Bitcoin payments for ProtonMail subscriptions in August 4 years ago (2017), to assist the firm’s commitment to principles of freedom and privacy.

In 2019, ProtonMail reportedly disclosed that it had not cashed in any of Bitcoin it accepted as payment, ever since the new payment method was viable. ProtonMail has also been open to receive Bitcoin-based donations, with an overall figure of 2.2 BTC (nearly $90,500) has been sent to its listed donation address for BTC.

ProtonMail’s most recent comment on Bitcoin reportedly offered optimism during the time of major turbulence on crypto markets, with companies like Tesla spreading rumours of a possible BTC dump, not long after stocking up on $1.5 billion equivalent of BTC in the beginning of 2021.
