Firefox to Add Cryptojacking Blocker in May

Mozilla reportedly plans to offer cryptomining and fingerprinting protection options to its custom content blocking preferences in Firefox 67. The new feature is due to be available on May 14th.

According to a bug report on Mozilla Bugzilla, the cryptomining protection will protect users from potential cryptojacking attacks which “can use a computer’s resources to mine cryptocurrency without a user’s knowledge”. In addition, fingerprinting, a method to track browsers by its configuration settings, will be blocked in the upcoming Firefox 67.

The “cryptomining and fingerprinting protection options to custom content blocking preferences” will appear in Content Blocking, according to a mock-up shared in the report.

Cryptojacking is a critical issue for Internet users, which caused major hacking attacks to some government websites such as India, Brazil and Iran.
