By Natalie Wu | January 8, 2019

Kuwait Finance House (KFH), a major bank in Kuwait, has made Kuwait’s first blockchain transaction using Ripple’s xRapid.

“The Kuwait Finance House has successfully accomplished the first ever blockchain transaction in the country. And this transaction had been possible due to the use of Ripple Technology. The transaction was tested and successfully completed with a beneficiary of KSA Bank,” said KFH.

Following this, KFH will soon be joining RippleNet, which according to LiveBitcoinNews, makes KFH “all set to use Ripple’s software solutions to enhance the quality and service of cross-border payments and make it more efficient for its clients.”

KFH is known for being the first financial institution to operate Islamic banking, and is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of $10.9 billion (as of June 2018).

KFH has tweeted that it has also started an “instant cross-border remittance service” using Ripple with no transaction fees. Its “Instant International Transfer” service is now available in Saudi Riyal SAR where customers can make remittance transactions to beneficiaries at Al Rajhi Bank.

Ripple has been partnering major banks and financial institutions around the world, such as Israel’s GMT, Turkey’s Akbank, MoneyGram, American Express, CIBC, and Earthport, all of whom are trialing Ripple’s blockchain technology for cross-border payments.
