A new online course – focused on financial technologies and cryptocurrency particularly – has been officially announced by The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Announced via a press release on May 30th, the new program – called “Fintech: Foundations and Applications of Financial Technologies” – include various lessons and case studies, which provide knowledge in fields like payments, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, crowdfunding and a few other more.

Besides the lessons given by lecturers at the university, Wharton School also invited a number of experts from the industry to feature in the program, who came from big corporations such as payment processor Square, marketplace lender CommonBond, and investment advisory firm Vanguard.

Anne Trumbore – Wharton Online senior director – claimed that the online program is one of many multi-faceted attempts at providing knowledge on fintech. According to the press release, Wharton has recently established Stevens Center for Innovation in Finance, devoted to performing research on financial technologies.

Wharton has become the next educational institution to introduce fintech and blockchain-related courses to their existing curriculum. At the beginning of May, Bahçeşehir University of Turkey has partnered with Boston’s Northeastern University to establish a blockchain center, on the American school’s campus, to offer informational support on blockchain technology.

Earlier in January, The Crypto Sight reported that Harvard’s Public Health Graduate School and Levi Strauss & Co, the maker of Levi’s denim jeans, had announced a collaboration to develop a self-reporting infrastructure on the blockchain. Its aim is to make the evaluation of workers conditions in factories more transparent, beginning with three of Levi’s factories in Mexico.
