Intel to Roll Out Blockchain Accelerator Shipping In 2022, Preparing to Enter Crypto

Intel is reportedly having plans down their pipeline to establish a presence in the crypto sphere, via introducing blockchain accelerator shipping in 2022, aimed at enhancing GPUs for crypto mining.

Specifically, Raja M. Koduri, senior vice president of accelerated computing systems and graphics group at Intel, reportedly revealed the firm’s intention of making contributions to the growth of blockchain, starting by rolling out energy-efficient crypto mining accelerators in 2022. 

Before that, Intel reportedly disclosed details regarding its plans for the new generation of Application-Specific Integrated Circuit mining machines at the next International Solid-State Circuits Conference in later February.

The firm additionally looks to put together a new International Solid-State Circuits Conference within Koduri’s division, in charge of designing custom silicon platforms, to achieve optimal blockchain mining performance and the design of supercomputers.

Moreover, Intel also shared a belief that its circuit innovations has the capability of introducing a blockchain accelerator that has more than better performance per watt, or energy used per unit time, compared to the mainstream GPUs for mining blockchain networks – at the moment utilizing SHA-256 encryption.

“Argo Blockchain, BLOCK (formerly known as Square), and GRIID Infrastructure are among our first customers for this upcoming product. This architecture is implemented on a tiny piece of silicon to have minimal impact on the supply of current products.”

Intel has reportedly kept a low profile when it comes to crypto prior to this most recent development. The difficulty of mining Bitcoin has been amplified to the point that ASICs are required over GPUs for a chance at profitability.

In terms of Ethereum mining, NVIDIA and AMD are reportedly sharing the number one and two as dominating forces in the sector.
