Flow Completes Integration Of Filecoin Decentralized Storage Feature For NFTs

Flow Blockchain has reportedly selected Filecoin as its official storage partner, in a bid to guarantee the non fungible tokens (NFTs) of holders and issuers are “securely available everywhere.”

Specifically, the development reportedly surfaced after an initiative was conducted in August, where Dapper Labs was investing resources in completing the integration of Filecoin’s storage services with the Flow Blockchain.

The newly formed alliance will reportedly make it possible for Flow users to mint NFTs, leverage InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) content addressing, as well as safely keeping their tokens in the decentralized storage provided by Filecoin.

Per Filecoin, IPFS content addressing reportedly works as a way to solve location addressing, where it helps collect online data from particular spots across the web, nominally from behind URLs.

Filecoin further remarked that this measure comes with “obvious downsides”, since the information is dependent on the centralized entities who have possession of the locations, having the power to “control the content.”

“In content-based addressing, content is no longer retrieved from single locations on the web. Rather, content is retrieved from any participating nodes on the IPFS network that have the content you’re requesting,” Filecoin additionally detailed.

As included within the scope of the partnership, Filecoin has further established “Next Step Grants” – with its value equivalent to $5,000 for every eligible NFT initiative on Flow, which integrates with IPFS or Filecoin’s network.

“As the Flow ecosystem grows, Filecoin’s decentralized storage solution will allow future applications that are built on Flow to have an easy way to protect NFT media assets and metadata”.
