The first China-based, blockchain-powered notary office has officially opened, according to a report by the local media outlet People last week.

As stated in the report, the notary office – dubbed Beijing CITIC Notary Office – will be open for business starting April 19th. This is the first time blockchain technology is used to build a notary office system in China.

Wang Mingliang – Beijing CITIC Notary Office director – has expressed in the opening day of the office that such Blockchain-based notary offices will not only possess the notarization features, but also lawful importance of Blockchain certification. Hu Jiyu – School of Business of China University of Political Science and Law lecturer – also claimed that Blockchain can help lower operational expenses while at the same time enhance efficiency and stability.

This blockchain integrated system will enable certificate holders to perform data verification by scanning a QR code. Professionals in the notary field hope blockchain would be the solution to combat document forging, as well as to prevent criminals exploiting information asymmetries.

Despite the contradictory ideas towards crypto regulations in the region, China is still a key player in the global crypto market and is reportedly the nation having the most number of blockchain projects in the world

Also, the Cyberspace Administration of China has issued official service names and corresponding filing registration numbers to its first batch of 197 blockchain companies, reported by The Crypto Sight on April 6.
