Etherescan Introduced New Anons-centric messaging Functionality – “Blockscan Chat”

By Warren Hayes | January 28, 2022

The developing team of well-known blockchain explorer and analytics platform Etherscan has reportedly introduced an Ether-powered, wallet-to-wallet instant messaging feature – called “Blockscan Chat”.

Specifically, the team is reportedly running beta testing for Blockscan at the moment.

The feature offers facilitating features for engagement in instant wallet-to-wallet chat, logging into chats from different devices, blocking spammy or unwanted addresses, as well as receiving notifications for the block explorer when a message appears.

While the freshly introduced functionality offers a proper measure for communicating with other anons – nominally carrying out negotiations of an anonymous purchase – it may potentially be distinctively useful in terms of handling whitehat hackers.

Said hackers have normally left messages embedded in Ethereum transactions in an attempt to talk to different users and exploited crypto platforms.

Last week’s Multichain hack reportedly witnessed a supposed whitehat hacker return 322 Ether (ETH) (but keep a handsome finder’s fee) and the $610 million PolyNetwork from 2021 both came with anon discussion through Ethereum transactions, as included in the scope of the negotiations between the culprit and victims.

Etherescan reportedly hinted in a subtle manner regarding the new functionality in a Twitter post on January 27th, saying “wonder what this is for…?”, with a screenshot depicting messenger notifications on the platform.

Aside from dealing with hackers to return funds for a bounty, this type of device could reportedly also offer assistance to the NFT market, as it is able to help with the negotiations of NFTs purchases between buyers and sellers, should the transaction be carried out by a decentralized exchange, both parties could bring down the costs related to NFT platforms like OpenSea.
