E-com Heavyweight Shopify Became Member Of Libra Association

By Shannon Wilson | February 23, 2020

Shopify – the Canada-based E-com heavyweight – has reportedly become the next member of the Libra Association.

Specifically, the E-com retailing giant, with over 1 million registered sellers, will be putting in resources to work on the arrival of a global payment network, as a member of Libra Association – a Facebook-established organization to support project Libra.

The Libra Foundation has drafted an official post, confirming the finalized status of the development, adding that Shopify is “incredible partner in making widespread economic participation a reality.”

As for Shopify, the firm claimed that this initiative to be a participant of the network is part of its plan to come up with a viable solution for the issues surrounding cross-border payments, as it believed the majority of infrastructure across the globe was in no shape to “handle the scale and needs of internet commerce.”

Shopify also clarified that, being a key player in the e-commerce sector, it should task itself with enhancing the current standards in the global payment system, so as to bring “transparent fees and easy access to capital”, and at the same time making sure all activities of merchants are secured and private.

“Our mission is to make commerce better for everyone and to do that, we spend a lot of our time thinking about how to make commerce better in parts of the world where money and banking could be far better. That’s why we decided to become a member of the Libra Association. This is one step, but not the only step we’ll be taking to be a part of the solution to this global problem.”

The initiative from Shopify is one good news for the Libra Association, with numerous international corporations have decided to get off the train, due to worries about global regulations.
