Crypto-friendly Brave Rolled Out Privacy-protecting Search Engine Beta to Rival Google

By Natalie Wu | June 24, 2021

Crypto-based web browser Brave has reportedly rolled out a privacy-protecting search engine beta, in its latest effort to establish a presence in the world of search.

Specifically, the platform reportedly looks to be a rival to giants like Google – which gathers personal information and browsing patterns, and at the same time operating targeted ads and customized search results.  However, the competition against the tech heavyweight – which takes up 90% of the market – is not in its favor at the moment.

On June 22nd, Brave reportedly disclosed the built-in Brave Search beta to its browser, offering access into “the first independent privacy search/browser alternative to big tech” for users.

Users looking to take Brave’s non-tracking, the privacy-centric search engine can reportedly visit search.brave.com, designed upon the foundation of an independent index having no user-tracking feature for searches and clicks, as well as will cater to individuals looking to steer clear from surveillance-based tech products, nominally Google search or Microsoft Bing.

The search engine will reportedly come with a choice for a “Google fallback mixing” for the ones still desire to retrieve results from the tech heavyweight’s search engine when there is a search insufficiency.

Brave Search reportedly decided to not present the ads head-on, which is a steer clear from the usual monetization tool Google utilizes. Nonetheless, it will offer free, ad-supported search moving forward, together with a paid option without ads and will incorporate its Basic Attention Token (BAT).

“When we are ready, we will explore bringing private ads with BAT revenue share to search, as we’ve done for Brave user ads.”
