ConsenSys Completed Acquisition Of MyCrypto For Security Enhancement

By Shannon Wilson | February 7, 2022

ConsenSys reportedly revealed details related to its completed acquisition of MyCrypto – the Ether crypto wallet interface provider – including it in the software firm’s range of services.

Specifically, ConsenSys’ primary intention is reportedly to complete the merging of MyCrypto with the MetaMask wallet owned by ConsenSys, in a bid to enhance “the security of all the products and create a cohesive user experience across desktop, mobile, extension and browser wallets”.

At the moment, MetaMask reportedly caters to roughly 21 million active users every month, which helps it secure a spot in the list of most rapidly-growing non-custodial Ethereum wallets and browser extensions.

MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay reportedly shared his expectations that the combination between MetaMask’s mobile apps and browser extensions and MyCrypto’s web product and desktop application will “connect people to the world of Web3 in even more ways.”

In the same sense, MyCrypto further provided explanations via a blog post regarding the way it will collaborate with MetaMask “to lead the way to Web3”, and that they work towards the same target of “building the perfect wallet.”

The characteristics of an ideal wallet include becoming increasingly decentralized and trustless, prioritizing user security and safety and providing seamless access across various user accounts, protocols and networks.

MyCrypto additionally shared that the user experience will face no adjustments in the near future, except for a few updates related to UX improvements, network handling, error messages and a dark mode. MyCrypto or MetaMask users will also not need to do anything at the moment.

In the long haul, however, both wallets will reportedly “slowly” merge into a “comprehensive, Ethereum-first suite of open-source, non-custodial product offerings.
