Chinese Province Adopts Blockchain to Improve Local Transport Infrastructure

Local Chinese authorities are adopting blockchain technology to enhance the infrastructure of the local transportation system, announced on the local government website on March 25.

The 3-year project, called “Implementation Plan for the Promotion of Transportation Infrastructure Development”,  aiming at increasing transportation efficiency, as well as reducing pollution and logistics costs.

Initially, the construction will take place in the Jiangsu Province, north of Shanghai. In order to successfully implement the project, the plans will combine different technology tools, i.e. the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data, alongside with blockchain tech. Specifically, blockchain was cited as a tool to enhance logistics data area.

“Vigorously develop ‘Internet+’ efficient logistics, make full use of mobile Internet, Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, blockchain and other technologies to promote the improvement of traditional cargo transportation organization and the effective integration of various modes of transportation.

The globe has recently seen more blockchain adoption in China. Earlier this month, a village located in the Wenzhou Zhejiang region, called Yuedong, has been named “Blockchain village” by the media due to its enthusiasm in digital currencies and blockchain technology.

Moreover, Chinese e-commerce conglomerate, Alibaba, is reported partnering with Aerospace Information Co. to promote blockchain technology in the industry.
