Brett Harrison Leaving Current FTX US president Role, Focusing On Advisory

By Irene L. | October 12, 2022

The president of crypto exchange FTX US, Brett Harrison, reportedly disclosed details related to the decision for moving into a more advisory-focused position in the next few months.

Specifically, as revealed via a Twitter post, Harrison reportedly claimed that he will be stepping down from his role as FTX US president but will still be with the exchange “with the goal of removing technological barriers to full participation in and maturation of global crypto markets, both centralized and decentralized.”

Harrison has been a part of FTX US as its president since May last year, after some time working at Citadel Securities.

“I can’t wait to share more about what I’m doing next. Until then, I’ll be assisting Sam [Bankman-Fried] and the team with this transition to ensure FTX ends the year with all its characteristic momentum.” Harrison further remarked regarding the development.

Bankman-Fried additionally shared that FTX US will be setting up its U.S. shops in Miami. The crypto exchange opened a Chicago office in May.

Harrison’s announcement was reportedly the most recent resignation in the top-tier level across the crypto sphere. Alex Mashinsky said on Sept. 27 that he would be departing from his role as Celsius CEO effective immediately, citing the “difficult financial circumstances” users were facing.

On Sept. 21, Kraken’s Jesse Powell also revealed operating officer Dave Ripley will be his replacement to be the firm’s CEO as soon as Ripley’s position was filled.

Powell will stay on with the exchange as a board member. Michael Saylor announced in August that he would step down as CEO of business intelligence firm MicroStrategy but remain as executive chair.
