An Anoncoin Will Be The Talk Of The Town In The Next Decade, Coinbase CEO Believed

By Shannon Wilson | January 7, 2020

Brian Armstrong – co-founder and current head of Coinbase – reportedly shared his belief that a “privacy coin” will be the next big talk of the town in the 20s decade.

Specifically revealed via the firm’s blog on January 3, Armstrong claimed that in the next decade, an increased number of privacy techs will be implemented onto a significant blockchain network. One of the tech could be a “private coin”, that will achieve the mainstream status in the 20s.

“Just like how the internet launched with HTTP, and only later introduced HTTPS as a default on many websites, I believe we’ll eventually see a “privacy coin” or blockchain with built in privacy features get mainstream adoption in the 2020s.”

Armstrong’s belief is not in line with the the recent severe measures to restrict privacy-focused digital coins, along with the general agreement that privacy should be the feature that receives the most attention, regarding the development of Bitcoin

Several names in the industry also expressed fear about Bitcoin’s increasing anonymity can threaten the existence of anoncoins.

Nominally, Blockstream has released test code for Bitcoin blockchain-focused Schnorr signatures in February last year.

Ethereum’s blockchain has rolled out support for zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-Proofs) in September 2017. In October the next year, auditing giant E&Y released its prototype integration of ZK-Proofs on the public Ethereum blockchain.
