By Natalie Wu | April 19, 2022

AMC Theatres – a US-based movie theater chain that supports crypto – reportedly rolled out update features to add Dogecoin (DOGE), Shibu Inu (SHIB), and other cryptos as payment measures across the nation.

Specifically, AMC Theatres reportedly introduced supporting features for crypto as a medium of payment on November 12th of last year, which made it possible for customers to buy movie tickets online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC).

On January 6th this year, Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theatres, reportedly took it to Twitter to share the commitment to begin accepting meme tokens DOGE and SHIB by March.

Although the process encountered a few delays, Aron’s team reportedly managed to do what he promised.

“Exactly as promised, the AMC mobile app for AMC’s U.S. theatres now accepts online payments using DogeCoin, Shiba Inu, and other crypto currencies — thanks to Bitpay. Also Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal. To do so, you first will need to update to the latest version of our app.” Aron’s tweet further read.

Aron additionally revealed that the AMC Theatres iOS and Android mobile apps could also have facilitating features available for crypto enabled-payments by integrating with BitPay, a Bitcoin payment service provider.

Nonetheless, the names of the other freshly facilitated cryptocurrencies are yet to be disclosed. To use the feature, users in the U.S. are advised to download the latest version of the mobile app.

Nium, a cross-border payments company from Singapore, reportedly introduced an API-based service via collaboration with BitPay, enabling establishments to begin accepting payments in crypto – initially with BTC and ETH.
