Ken Weber – social impact director for Ripple – believed that universities across the globe should put in extensive efforts to introduced blockchain and crypto assets-focused courses, which are specialized for roles in the field.
During an interview with OpenAccessGovernment on August 20, Weber has mentioned the insufficient number of blockchain professionals. along with the lack of related educational materials to the industry.
Weber specified his thought with words from a report, claiming that there has been a dramatic incline, 517% specifically, in the need for blockchain-focused software engineers “in the past year”, and supply is insufficient to compensate for the demand.
“A large part of the issue is that companies need two types of blockchain professionals. Firstly, they need engineers who possess a deep understanding of the technologies and can implement changes immediately. Secondly, they need to fill non-technical roles with senior employees who can make decisions involving the application of blockchain to business objectives. To do this, however, these employees need a working knowledge of the technology. The industry has a well-documented, yet growing skills gap that must be fixed.” Weber explained.
Weber claimed that, despite a large number of schools in the list of 50 world bests has no less than 1 blockchain or crypto course available, they often comes with other industries such as law, engineering, mathematics and business administration.
To appropriately tackle the issue, Weber suggested that blockchain courses have to be directly related to actual positions in the field.
