TRON Launches New BitTorrent File System Protocol

TRON, a blockchain-based operating system, has recently announced its plans to integrate with a BitTorrent File System (BTFS), an alternative version of the decentralized file system InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

According to a press release (May 30), the move will create a distributed web platform powered by blockchain technology, allowing users to trade and host storage on their computers with other users and companies. The internal trial of the BTFS protocol reportedly already started in May and will be officially rolled out soon by the end of Q1 2020.

A roadmap on BitTorrent’s website includes a mainnet launch for BTFS in Q3 2019. When the mainnet launches, TRON developers will be able to use BTFS for storage.

“BTFS is a continuing step in our mission to create a decentralized internet that allows everyone to share in the wealth of web commerce,” said Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent. “We’re creating a platform with BTFS, BitTorrent Speed blockchain integration and the BTT utility token to let users quickly and privately interact with each other around the world without a middleman or government intervention.”

The report also cited a study from McKinsey Global Institute that the world’s largest companies captured 36 percent of the economic profit. As a result, TRON’s creators hope that a decentralized internet will help big companies earn profits from digital ads, data collection, and other means.

As The Crypto Sight reported on Apr 11, TRON founder and CEO Justin Sun said that the firm will officially collaborate with Ethereum. The firm is also aiming to release a “new network with a privacy option” based on Zcash technology in Q2 2019.

Previously at the beginning of March, TRON’s BitTorrent Token reportedly got listed on CoinAll Exchange. Users of BitTorrent can now to sign in to CoinAll through the BitTorrent website directly.
