Rappi – among the top well-known delivery services in Latin America – is reportedly collaborating with Bitso and Bitpay to include Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptos in its list of payment mediums.
Specifically, Rappi is reportedly looking to finalize the integration of Bitso and Bitpay via a Mexico-based trial initiative. However, details regarding the pilot plan will also enable access to the service in Brazil and other Latin American nations are still unclear.
Sebastián Mejia, the co-founder, and president of Rappi, reportedly revealed that crypto will not be included in the app directly at the initial phase.
Mexico’s Rappi users will have the ability to carry out payments for credits using cryptocurrencies. They may then use their credits on any items and services available via the app.
Nonetheless, as revealed by the institution’s president, Rappi’s plans with crypto still have a lot more ambition than the current scope. Furthermore, details of other integrations should be revealed to the public audience in the future.
“In this first phase, we decided to build a product that allows our consumers to connect their digital wallets and exchange accounts to convert cryptocurrencies into Rappi credits and thus access all the products available within the platform.”
The decision to add Bitcoin to the list of viable payment options from a top-tier delivery service has reportedly been made before. Lieferando, the same as Rappi, was the pioneering entity in its kind to accept cryptocurrencies as payment in 2017.
Grubhub reportedly also forged an alliance with Bitcoin rewards app Lolli to allow hungry consumers to earn cryptocurrency on their orders.
The Latin American territory has reportedly been a concentrated hub of activity for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption. Per insights from recent research, 75% of investors in Asia-Pacific and Latin American emerging markets are seeking to expand their cryptocurrency investments.
