Crypto payments network Electroneum (ETN) has reportedly disclosed details of its expansion for its utility bill and mobile phone airtime top-up coverage. 

Specifically, with the new initiative, the coverage will reportedly now reach four extra nations located in West Africa – Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Sierra Leone, making the overall figure for supported nations climb up to nine, including Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau. 

With more than 4 million users finalizing their registration, Electroneum’s footprint expansion across Africa has reportedly concentrated primarily on employing its ETN token for utility bill payments and mobile airtime subscriptions, through the firm’s mobile app.

“We are very pleased with the hundreds of electricity top-ups that have been completed in Nigeria, where we have hundreds of Electroneum users.” Nigel Pooley, head of business development at Electroneum, reportedly remarked. 

Per Pooley, the electricity top-ups function is reportedly building  ETN utility throughout the firm’s suite of products and services, where “Most of these transactions come from our AnyTask freelancers.”

Sharing on the plans down the pipeline for the future, Pooley reportedly disclosed that the firm is looking to collaborate directly with electricity companies and mobile network operators, with the top priority to make sure base rates on electricity top-ups and mobile airtime recharge payments are provided to customers. 

At the moment, almost all ETN-based bill payments and airtime subscriptions happen through Africa-based crypto-friendly third-party agents.
