Spanish Port Partnered IBM To Adopt Blockchain Shipping Platform

By | January 23, 2019

The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has recently entered a partnership with IBM on its shipping platform Tradelens, Europa News reports (Jan 21). Tradelens is a blockchain-based platform jointly developed by IBM and shipping company Maersk.

As announced in August 2018, TradeLens platform aims to promote secure global trade by allowing transparent transmission of supply chain documents around the world.

Algeciras is one of the busiest ports in Europe. However, it is not the first port to adopt blockchain technology to achieve greater efficiency in operation. According to Cointelegraph, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi port deployed its own blockchain solution in June 2018, while the port of Rotterdam collaborated with Dutch bank and a subsidiary of Samsung to test blockchain for shipping last October
