The Malaysian Ministry of Education recently rolled out E-Skrol – a NEM blockchain-based solution to address the problems regarding certificate fraud.

Reported by Bernama on September 19, the educational governmental department of the nation disclosed that E-Skrol – which was launched earlier in the past as a tool that helps provide verification for degrees – is now accessible to all public and private university-level educational institution nationwide.

The project was specifically designed to combat the inclining rate of fake degrees, which can be easily acquired by doing business with online-based “diploma mills”.

Dr. Maszlee Malik – the Malaysian Education Minister – claimed that the battle between the country and the serious matter of degree forgeries has been leaving a negative effect on the higher education system of this SEA nation. 

“There are people who latch on to the reputation of Malaysian public universities to improve their profiles by displaying fake certificates. I believe the blockchain application can change this situation.’ He added.

The Minister further announced that, with the blockchain-based tool officially up and running, all detailed information of whichever students that have graduated from a university in Malaysia can be verified from any location throughout the globe.
