Ledger, the French cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer, has recently announced the release of its mobile app Dubbed Ledger Live on its official website.
The app is now available for Android & iOS mobile devices, in addition to the desktop version.Dubbed Ledger Live enables users of Ledger Nano X wallets to use their wallets without the need for a cable via their mobile devices and a Bluetooth connection. Ledger also added that they were working on having the same features for the Ledger Live mobile app as the desktop version.
The current system of the app mainly supports Nano X holders while users of older Nano S or Ledger Blue can only check balance information. However, the company promised to roll out full functionality for all users later. Except for Nano S holder, they would need an Android phone to connect with their wallets and will need a USB OTG cable to make transactions due to missing Bluetooth function.
Ledger’s app uses Trezor’s Bridge interface which has been seen across its wallet portfolio last year. Trezor is currently more geared to desktop use, with its app-esque ‘Trezor Manager’ having only limited functionality by comparison.
The mobile push comes since hardware wallet has become more popular among savvy cryptocurrency investors wary of the security dangers of traditional crypto wallets.
Controlling funds to non-technical users has become a matter of importance and a lot of efforts have been made towards the issue as cryptocurrency exchanges continue to report hacks of user funds.
