By | March 17, 2021

Huobi Global – a global, top-tier crypto exchange platform by traded volume – has reportedly disclosed details of Vincent Lau, a blockchain professional – taking up the role of its managing director.

Specifically, Lau has reportedly had prior experience being an executive at high-profile crypto exchanges Bitfinex and OKEx, and has worked for international enterprises outside of the blockchain sphere, including e-com marketplace Groupon and marketing company Iclick Interactive.

With the new job at Huobi Global, Lau will reportedly be in charge of supervising the company’s global expansion, strategic development, and localized operations.

Huobi reportedly has goals of expanding in key markets throughout Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the EU. Lau reportedly shared his excitement to get onboard Huobi, at a time when crypto asset adoption was getting close to critical mass.

“Huobi is well positioned to become a global player with its compliance and security-first approach. While Huobi is already established in the Asia Pacific region, there are still many untapped opportunities for the brand both domestically and abroad. I look forward to working with Huobi to expand the brand globally and helping bring financial access and opportunities to all communities.”

The new managing director will reportedly also oversee Huobi’s effort to establish DeFi presence, as well as head up offshore development for the company’s smart contract platform, Huobi ECO Chain, together with spending efforts in promoting the adoption of its H-tokens.

Huobi’s H-tokens are assets generated on Ethereum, and are “backed by cryptocurrencies from other blockchains”, with Huobi stating the tokens serve “as a bridge between the centralized market and the DeFi market.”
