The Associated Press reportedly revealed its plan to introduce its self-developed Chainlink oracle node, to make sure information from newspaper and broadcaster members go through cryptographic verification. 

Specifically, the Associated Press (AP) reportedly claimed that smart contract developers would have the freedom to tap into the agency’s “economic, sports, and race call data”, as soon as the node was up and running. 

Per the AP, it will carry out the publishing of data on-chain to support developers, along with reference in whichever associated applications, apart from offering data on upcoming elections and catering to artists dealing with non-fungible tokens.

“Chainlink technology is the ideal way to provide smart contract developers anywhere in the world with direct, on-demand access to AP’s trusted economic, sports, and race call data. Working with Chainlink allows this information to be compatible with any blockchain.” AP director of blockchain and data licensing Dwayne Desaulniers further remarked regarding the development. 

The AP additionally shared that the main driving factor for the blockchain transition was “trust”, meaning that the on-chain data it provided would be “a publicly accessible, safe and secure record of verified information.”

The agency further revealed its willing attitude to shift its approach, dependent on the response from developers as it kept “a finger on the pulse of the blockchain economy.”

The news agency has established its presence in blockchain in the past. The AP has initially expressed interest in deep-diving into the methods to obtain intellectual property rights, support ethical journalism, and track content usage, upon its formed alliance with blockchain-powered journalism startup Civil three years ago.
