Cybersecurity company Emsisoft has recently come up with an update that would fix the issues caused by Bitcoin (BTC)-demanding ransomware WannaCryFake.

Announced via a blog post on September 25, Emsisoft will be introducing an update that would resolve WannaCryFake ransomware bug problem, free-of-charge. The WannaCryFake is an improved bug of its predecessor WannaCry – the malicious software that caused a fuzz throughout computer systems 2 years ago. 

As soon as the WannaCryFake bug successfully tapped into a computer, it will illegally get ahold of the victim’s personal data – which will only be decrypted if a crypto-based ransom is transferred to the appointed account. 

“WannaCryFake is a strain of ransomware that uses AES-256 to encrypt a victim’s files. Files that have been encrypted by WannaCryFake are appended with the file extension: ‘.[][recoverydata54@protonmail.com].WannaCry’ According to the ransomware distributors, the price of decryption depends on how quickly you email them.”

Emisoft strongly advised that no matter what happens, responses to the ransom request should be made. The new update from the company will retrieve the data and minimize the damage from the bug.
