Robert A. Cohen – the director of the U.S SEC Division of Enforcement’s Cyber Unit – has reportedly resigned from his position at the department, as officially disclosed by the SEC.

Cohen has been appointed the first head of the Cyber Unit, ever since it was established 2 years ago in 2017.

The cyber unit is primarily responsible for handling crypto assets-related violations of securities, together with dealing with violations in trading on online platforms, as well as cybersecurity disclosures and procedures.

During his time working as the chief officer, Cohen has been the head supervisor for numerous operations, including a $100 million legal complaint against Kik startup, for operating a $100 million token offering without proper license. He also handled the case where DJ Khaled and famous boxer Floyd Mayweather wrongfully promoted an ICO.

“The Cyber Unit has been a great success under Rob’s strategic leadership […] Soon after its creation, the Cyber Unit immediately began filing impactful cases that protect investors and demonstrate the SEC’s ability to respond nimbly to new and difficult challenges.” Steven Peikin, co-director of Cohen’s division, remarked regarding the news.

The SEC has recently granted authorization for Blockstack – a blockchain-powered startup, to generate a $28 million public token offering – the first of its kind and would run under the Regulation A+.
