Jon Montroll – co-founder of the shutdown Bitcoin (BTC) exchange BitFunder – has been sentenced to 14 months of imprisonment, regarding charges of obstruction of justice and securities fraud.

Reported by FinanceFeeds on July 12, the charges against Montroll started in 2018. In July last year, Montroll admitted his involvement in the obstruction of justice charge. Specifically, when asked to give statements for his balance, regarding an investigation being conducted by the US Securities and Exchange Commission to look into the fake 6,000 BTC BitFunder attack in 2013, Montroll has admitted having given false information to the US department.

The proceedings against the fraudster have officially concluded last week, on July 11, 2019, when Richard M. Berman – the Judge of the New York Southern District Court – has decided to give Montroll 14 months of jail time, following with close supervision in 3 years after his release.

Although Montroll’s counsel asked the judge for a probationary sentence, the court still ruled in favour of 27 to 33 months of jail time.

Recently, U.S. District Judge Sandra J. Feuerstein has also sentenced Blake Kantor – a crypto enthusiast located in New Jersey – to 86 months in prison for allegations regarding operating a cryptocurrency-related scheme. Kantor was also demanded to pay $806,405 worth of restitution to the investors fell for his scam, as well as forfeit $153,000 in stolen proceeds.
