India Launched Cybercrime Lab to Fight Cryptocurrency Crime

A devoted cybercrime lab has been launched by Indian authorities this week, in which cryptocurrency crime took one focus spot as a part of national digital threat.

Aiming to enhance the national capability of fighting against cybercrime,  India’s Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated a national cyber forensic lab and the Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit ‘CyPAD’, reported by the local news outlet The Hindu on Feb 19.

“We are now equipped with technology to recover data from damaged hard disks, cryptocurrency analysis, malware forensic and data can be retrieved from 33,000 kinds of mobile models available in the market,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

As The Crypto Sight reported on Feb 19, scammers have committed several crypto frauds in the country, including the most recent 1 billion rupee lost, urging the authorities to officially put cryptocrime in the front of national digital threats.

This movement comes in the situation where the cryptocurrency adoption in India is still facing many legal obstacles. India’s official attitude toward crypto so far seems more mixed or even unwelcoming. Plus, Delhi is recently reported to have concerns about how crypto impact the stability of the national currency rupee.
