Apple Job Listings & Patents Suggesting Footprint In ‘3D Mixed-reality World’

| 15-Th11-2022

Tech heavyweight Apple seems to be putting in efforts towards the growth of a metaverse-sounding “3D mixed-reality world,” as revealed via associated patent filings and recent job postings.

Specifically, Since the start of November, more than 30 jobs have been listed on Apple’s careers page sharing connections to augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), with the Big Tech entity looking for a mix of software and hardware engineers, primarily based in its Technology Development Group (TDG).

TDG reportedly functions as a secretive team inside of Apple with originality potentially tracing as far back as 2017, which is acknowledged to be working on developing AR and VR technology.

Apple has reportedly never issued an official confirmation that a device like that was being designed, though it is vastly perceived as a tech industry “open secret.”

While at the moment Apple is looking for talents in more than 150 positions, according to its careers page, one particular job opening from August sits in the spotlight, mentioning a type of “3D mixed-reality world.”

“In this role you will work closely with other developers and build tools and frameworks to enable connected experiences in a 3D mixed-reality world.” The job ad promotes a vacancy for an AR/VR network engineer, with part of the description as above.

Meanwhile, patent filings from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reportedly suggested in August that Apple trademarked Reality One and Reality Pro, both described as “photographic and optical apparatus and instruments” and “virtual and augmented reality headsets, goggles, and glasses.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly already shared his perspectives regarding one of the hottest aspects of the crypto world – the metaverse. On a Q1 2022 earnings call in January when asked about the company’s metaverse opportunities, Cook said, “we see a lot of potential in this space and are investing accordingly.”
