Japan-based startup Layer X will reportedly forge an alliance with digital identity application, dubbed xID, to work on a blockchain-powered voting system in the Japanese city of Kaga.

Specifically, LayerX reportedly disclosed its initiative to design an electronic voting project, in a bid to achieve an enhanced level of safety and security for elections, for the city with 68,000 citizens.

The company reportedly remarked that the cost and stability of the existing e-voting systems across the territory need to be improved.

“Voting over the Internet presents more challenges, such as preventing double voting, technical hurdles to keep ballots secret, and the cost of voting devices. LayerX researched and developed an electronic voting protocol that balances the transparency of the voting process and the confidentiality of voting records.” The firm further stated.

Per LayerX, the xID application will reportedly reinforce the currently employed voting solution, via assisting with running verification for a voter’s identity, and making sure only one ballot is available for every individual.

LayerX’s system will reportedly offer the ability of self-checking for the final voting results of a person, together with offering the cryptographic power, to run verification the recording and aggregation processes for a specific vote was carried out precisely, in an independent manner, across the blockchain network.

The Kaga authorities were among the first across the nation to officially use the term “blockchain city” to refer to the territory.

The project reportedly has a primary goal of dealing with the nation’s population drop throughout rural areas, via calling for businesses working in the private and public sectors to adopt innovative tech.
