UNICEF and Ethereum Hackathon to Promote Blockchain Projects for Social Good

By | February 11, 2019

UNICEF Ventures and UNICEF France have teamed up with Ethereum hardware hackathon ETHDenver and Ethereum startup Bounties Network to create a blockchain bounty token system aimed at encouraging developers to create projects promoting social good.

According to an ETHDenver press release (Jan 31), the four are developing a prototype for what it calls a “positive action token”.

Though currently without a name, ETHDenver is encouraging its hackathon attendees to contribute naming suggestions as part of the hackathon’s incentivization program called “The Impact Track”. ETHDenver Diversity and Impact Steward Nick Rodrigues said the program encourages developers to think about the positive social impact of technical innovation.

The token, being a value-driven community coin, will be not have a monetary redemption value. Holders can, instead, use these tokens for advance accessibility to future events by UNICEF and Impact Track, as well as other related programs such as mentorship sessions.

ETHDenver is set to take place February 15-17, 2019 in Denver, Colorado.
