Ukrainian Crypto Jacker Received 6 Years Imprisonment for Running Cryptojacking Malware

According to a public statement by the local police department on March 26th, a man was allegedly brought into custody by the Ukrainian Cyber Police force, with planting crypto malware scripts charges on his personal web page.

Specifically, the 32-year-old crypto fraudster, who lives in Bukovina, Ukraine was arrested by the Ukrainian police cyber crime team. He was accused of embedding crypto frauding programmes into a few web pages in the education field that he designed and operated himself.

According to a police report, these anonymous education sites are visited by approximately 1.5 million users on a monthly basis. Furthermore, such sites are detected to have integrated illegal crypto mining equipment in the visitors’ CPU and GPU power system.

The crypto criminal residence has been thoroughly investigated, with many computer equipments, bank cards, hard drives and past criminal recording plans confiscated. The alleged crypto fraudster has then been convicted and received 6 years of imprisonment.

Cryptojacking malware crimes have been on the rise lately, as cyber security company McAfee Labs has reported in December, 2018 a giant surge of more than 4,000 percent in 2018 of crypto jacking cases.

AT&T Cybersecurity has also notified that crypto mining is the primary reason behind almost all cyber attacks on businesses’ cloud infrastructures.
