Jane Castor, the mayor of Tampa Bay, Florida has reportedly publicly disclosed her willingness to receive her salary in the form of Bitcoin (BTC).
Specifically, Castor reportedly revealed her intention on November 5th, during Florida’s Bitcoin & Blockchain Summit – organized at Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa.
As revealed by the attendees of the Summit, crypto lending platform Celsius Network will reportedly be in charge of the facilitation job for the mayor’s BTC payments.
The announcement traveled fast throughout Crypto Twitter, with Bitcoin evangelist Anthony Pompliano claiming that an overall figure of four mayors in America has chosen Bitcoin (BTC) as the form of payment – even for a small chunk – of their salary.
Castor’s decision reportedly seems to have been fueled by Miami’s Francis Suarez, who just earned the reputation of the first mayor to accept a part of his paycheck in Bitcoin.
Freshly elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams quickly followed the footstep via revealing that he will accept his first three paychecks fully in the cryptocurrency.
Suarez and the newly-elected Adams have been adopting a public stance regarding making their respective cities hubs supporting crypto.
After the election, Adams reportedly declared that New York City will turn into the “center of the cryptocurrency industry.”
Although Bitcoin has to undergo several rounds of the utmost volatility in price value in 2021, Bitcoin bounced back to record highs in late October and keeps on trading over the $60,000 threshold.
Its price appreciation has been supported by the development in mainstream acceptance from regulators and financial institutions, together with merchants and payment processors.
