The Portugal-based football club SL Benfica has reportedly added cryptocurrency as a payment method, for purchasing merchandise and tickets.
Reported by Verdict on June 6th, SL Benfica will collaborate with crypto-related services provider Utrust, to integrate the new payment option to its system. The club supporters are now able to use Utrust’s native token (UTK), Bitcoin (BTC), or Ethereum (ETH), to buy things via Benfica’s official site.
Utrust will facilitate the crypto-to-fiat converting process of the customers, which enables Benfica to earn income from its products in cash form. According to the report, this new partnership will help Benfica steer clear from crypto-related violation problems, while at the same time still can utilize blockchain for its security feature.
SL Benfica has around and around 14 million total supporters across the globe and approximately half of them are online every day. Benfica hoped that the new payment option will help attract more fans. The club also advertised its crypto payment method to be the cheapest, safest and fastest option for online transactions.
“We recognize that many of our supporters are now digital users first, so we want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting novel technologies and giving our supporters the best online experience.” SL Benfica CEO Domingos Soares de Oliveira commented regarding the announcement.
